Elvis Mural
Probably my favorite documentary project of all time in 1996, four MFA Painting students from SCAD painted the world's largest mural—a 77,000 Sq ft mural of Elvis. The entire painting was on canvas, with house paint on Tybee Island outside Savannah, GA. I had these images published multiple times and this was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records.

Fireman
While serving as the Photo Editor for Creative Loafing Magazine in Savannah, GA, in 1994, I captured this image of a firefighter taking a break during a controlled burn.

Sparkling Rosé
Sparkling Rosé being poured into a glass.
I took this photo a couple of months back for Hawkins Cellars. Their Rosé of Pinot Noir is “Refreshing and zestful, brimming with ripe strawberry and white peach flavors cloaked with racy acidity, lime, and mineral details. Slightly unctuous, resulting in a stylish combination of having an almost creamy feel that finishes with mouthwatering juiciness. Sourced from Celilo Vineyard.”
My wife said, “great photo, it makes me want a glass of Rosé.
Sainte Chapelle
Sainte-Chapelle is known worldwide for its exemplary Gothic architecture, from its intricate vaults to the façade, though you won't find the more lavish features, like flying buttresses, that you see at Notre Dame.
In Paris, it's easy to be overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of historical and cultural treasures the City of Lights offers. But amid the grandeur of the Louvre, the beauty of Notre Dame, and the charm of Montmartre, one hidden gem often escapes the tourist spotlight: Sainte Chapelle. Nestled within the confines of the Palais de la Cité on the Île de la Cité, this stunning chapel is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture that will leave you in awe.
A Hidden Jewel in Plain Sight
Sainte Chapelle may have yet to have the fame of some of its neighboring attractions, but it boasts a rich history and architectural beauty that rivals any other landmark in Paris. The chapel was built in the mid-13th century by King Louis IX (later known as Saint Louis) and was intended to house critical religious relics, including the Crown of Thorns. It was, and still is, a symbol of the monarchy's close relationship with the Church.
A Kaleidoscope of Stained Glass
What truly sets Sainte Chapelle apart is its extraordinary stained glass windows. As you step into the upper chapel, you'll find yourself immersed in a breathtaking kaleidoscope of color and light. The 15 towering windows depict biblical stories, from Genesis to the Resurrection, in exquisite detail. The way the sunlight filters through this stunning glasswork is nothing short of mesmerizing, casting vibrant, ever-changing hues that dance across the chapel's interior. It's a transcendent experience that feels like stepping into a different world.
A Glimpse into Medieval Artistry
The intricate stone and woodwork within Sainte Chapelle are equally impressive. The chapel's slender columns, ribbed vaults, and pointed arches are classic Gothic-style elements. Still, they are executed with such precision and grace that it's impossible not to be impressed by the craftsmanship of the medieval artisans. The chapel's architecture alone is a lesson in history and artistry.
Why You Must Visit Sainte Chapelle
Unique and Hidden: Sainte Chapelle is less crowded than some other Parisian landmarks, making it an ideal escape from the tourist hustle and bustle.
Spiritual Serenity: Whether religious or not, the atmosphere in Sainte Chapelle is one of tranquility and reflection.
Architectural Marvel: The chapel's architecture is a testament to human creativity and skill during the Middle Ages.
Stunning Stained Glass: The stained glass windows are unrivaled in their beauty and historical significance.
How to Get There
Sainte Chapelle is conveniently located on the Île de la Cité, easily accessible from other popular attractions such as Notre Dame Cathedral. You can take the Paris Metro to the Cité station, and from there, it's just a short walk to the chapel.
So, if you're planning a trip to Paris, remember to include Sainte Chapelle on your itinerary. It's a hidden jewel that promises an unforgettable experience, whether you're an architecture enthusiast, an art lover, or simply a traveler searching for unique and awe-inspiring adventures. You'll find a quiet, timeless beauty bound to leave a lasting impression in Sainte Chapelle.
Cabernet Grapes
Here in the Columbia Gorge AVA, photographed near The Dalles, OR. As a Gorge local, we are blessed to have a massive variety of wine grapes.
In the world of wine, few varietals command the same level of respect and admiration as the noble Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are a favorite among winemakers and enthusiasts, known for their deep color, rich flavors, and exceptional aging potential. To truly appreciate this iconic grape, one must delve into the captivating journey of Cabernet grapes on the vine.
It can take three years from planting time to get the first harvest. One winemaker once told me that it takes seven years from raw land to a glass of wine.
Wine bottle photography
Here are a few simple bottle shots. Wine bottle photography is a labor of love. While these look simple, each bottle takes precision and lighting control to capture the bottle at its best.
Studio photography with a white background is all about simplicity. The white backdrop is a canvas, allowing the wine bottle to take center stage without distractions. This approach highlights the bottle's shape, label, and contents and conveys an air of purity and elegance.
Wine bottle studio photography on a white background is an art that combines simplicity and precision. With the proper techniques, attention to detail, and creative flair, you can capture the elegance and sophistication of wine in every glass.
Flaming Martini
The "Flaming Martini" is one of my favorite studio photos from a few years back. I love the contrast of the flame with the liquid. Soon, I'll be producing more flame images.

I'll be honest: this is not safe to drink. The liquid is water with orange & red food coloring. The flame is from ignited rubber cement. It is visually stunning, but it could cause a tummy ache.
Nearest Green Distillery
About a year ago, my wife took me and a few friends to the Nearest Green Distillery in Shelbyville, TN, for my 50th birthday. If you like American Whiskey and you have yet to discover Uncle Nearest, stop what you're doing and go to the store! I'm a huge Whiskey/Bourbon fan, and Nearest is by far the best! Uncle Nearest is the guy who taught Jack Daniels the art of charcoal mellowing (the Lincoln County process).
This photo was taken while on tour. The rick house is beautiful and so inspiring photographically. I wish I had more time there and some lighting. This photo was lit by the door about 20' away.
Their facility, staff, whiskey, and everything about them is top-notch. I highly recommend Nearest Green Distillery.
Milbrandt Chardonay
A few years back, I had the opportunity to shoot for Milbrandt Vineyards in Woodinville, WA. They have a beautiful tasting room. One of their vineyards is right next to the Gorge Amphitheater. It's a beautiful part of the world.
Paul Gregutt at Wine Enthusiast describes it as "concentrated, beautifully defined flavors of pear, apple, and ripe pineapple drive a stake through the heart of this wine, blazing a trail across the palate with tongue-thrashing acids and bracing minerality. As it slowly unwinds, it reveals a finish of banana caramel tart, luscious and long."
Racecar at PIR
This is one of my favorite pictures. Nick Fluge of Fluge Global Adventures drives this racecar at Portland International Raceway. It was taken back in 2008 at PIR.
First day of fall
It’s the first day of fall. Here’s a shot I recently did for Hawkins Cellars. These two bottles will be in the fall release for their wine club. This is a single light setup in the studio.
Crush at Hawkins Cellars
Went up to Hawkins Cellars on Monday, Sep 18 to shoot their crush. This is their first crush in their new winery. Thane Hawkins is very pleased with the new facility. I hiighly recommend their Black lable Syrah.
Crush at Willow
Had a little fun yesterday. Stoppbed by Willow Wine to shoot my friend Brendan Simpers while he prepared Cabernet Franc grapes for crush. They are an incredible family owned winery on Underwood Mountain. In my opinion, the absolute best wine maker in the Columbia Gorge AVA.
Engagement Photos
I had a blast the other day shooting engagement photos for some great friends. Wes and Alex have not picked their date, but they wanted some engagement photos to share with friends and family.
